The Dungeon
2/6/10
Well, it's been a full year that I finally got around to
updating the Dungeon. I have been in and out of the
dungeon during the season and thank goodness the season's over
for the most part! It seems like the season went by faster
than normal but the other stuff (match results, standings, etc.)
has been a real headache. I finally got to the point that
I started working on standings by Monday morning and when I had
entered the last submitted match result by Wednesday, I was
done. I can only do so much! I think there may be a
match or two in other classes that never got turned in. Oh
well...
I have been thinking how much I enjoyed the team this
year. The season has been a labor of love. Some
matches we won, some we lost and some we gave away. There
was no shortage of elation nor disappointments. That's
life-every day!
The Varsity girls did not make the state tournament this
year. Scott and Amanda Boltz poured their hearts and soul
into getting the girls ready for the season but the sad truth as
I see it, is that most of the girls never did buy into the
program. Some had a sense of entitlement and others would
forget what they learned by the end of practice.
Good luck next year Scot and Amanda!
Cayliss Mothershed and Rachel Eubanks did bowl well enough at
District's to qualify for the State tournament as singles.
Way to go ladies!
The Varsity boys did manage to qualify for the State
tournament on a strong regular season finish by beating Lincoln
East and Northeast. They also bowled well at Districts and
finished in 2nd place just behind North Platte. Now we
prepare for State and hope that we can continue our focus on the
lanes.
2/6/09
I apologize for not getting to this sooner but I have been
really busy with NHSBF business. The season has come and
gone and I think that I have been a good boy the past couple of
months.
The girls team featured 5 new members to the team.
Ashley was the only holdout from the championship team of a year
ago. She will be attending the 2009 State tournament as a
singles entrant along with Cayliss.
The boys could have been 11-2 for the season but let 3
matches slip away from them in the closing frames of the
matches. The team average wasn't as good as it could have
been but I have been struggling with the #2 spot in the lineup
all season long. As of today, that spot is still up in the
air and I'm hoping that someone will step up and help out the
team.
The boys finished 1st in the A3 District tournament held in
Kearney. This was the first year that all district centers
were mandated to put down a particular shot. As it would
happen, the new Chameleon pattern was the one picked by NHSBF
Commissioner, John Losito.
After looking at the scores from District's, I do believe
that the right choice was made. It was the most even
scoring across the state in all classes.
The #7 ranked boys beat the #1 & #2 teams in Class A at the A3
District. Nothing like taking the wild card question out of
the equation. Way to go Links!
Next up, the State tournament at Parkway Lanes. Two
goals left but we'll take them one ball at a time. I
expect no less than 100% effort and focus next week. Wish
us luck because the whining has started from some of the local
teams that don't think we belong at State. Two words,
"Bowl Better!"
2/12/08
Another season has come and gone. The qualifying rounds
at Hollywood were exciting for some and disappointing for
others. I thought the surprise team in the boys division
was the Kearney Bobcats. I didn't give them a chance
against Columbus in the finals. It's a good thing I'm not
a betting kinda person. Columbus had the chance to put
Kearney away and didn't and that hurt big time.

Way to go Lady Links! The Lady Links cruise to another
District Championship. The Links didn't fare that
well. The boys struggled to play the five to three board
modified house shot (it wasn't modified by any means when 4 of
your team starts out with 5 and 6 baggers) which broke down in
the 4th game. Kudos to Parkway for keeping the teams
honest on Saturday. Congratulations to all the teams that
made the cut for the state finals. If I was a betting man,
my money is on Columbus. They look that good! Of
course anything can happen in the baker brackets so good luck to
all and that would include LSW. My boys will take a break
this weekend and give someone else an opportunity to experience
the arena finals (I'm just joking 'round so don't get your
boxers in an uproar).

This whole thing about being jealous is starting to chap my
***! For one thing, if you don't like what you're reading
then click the back button on your browser. In other
words, change the channel!!
Jealous is defined as: painfully desirous of another's
advantages. Envy is a synonym for jealousy. In order
for me to be jealous or envious of another bowling program, they
would have to have something I wanted or desired. Let me
break it down for you...
2003 Holdrege Invitational Champs
2003 NHSBF Class A State - 3rd place
2004 Star City Open Champions
2004 District A2 Champions
2004 NHSBF Class A State - 3rd Place
2005 NHSBF Class A State Champions
2005 Star City Open Champions
2005 Kickoff Classic Baker Bash Champions
2006 Plattsmouth Invitational Champions
2006 District A2 Champions
2006 NHSBF Class A State Champions
2007 Millard Invite Champions
2007 NHSBF Class A State Runner-up
This list is not complete by any means. I gave out a
bunch of trophies at our last team banquet from 1999 to
2002. When you can show me a list as impressive as the one
above then maybe I would have something to be jealous
about. Which brings up another point I would like to
make. Don't complain about not having trophy space at SVL
if you don't have anything to put in there! Nuff said...

Well, the Links Challenge was interesting to say the
least. There was some good play on the lanes and lousy
attitudes on the concourse. I heard that John had some
choice comments over the intercom and I missed it (damn!).
Interesting tidbit I heard today is that I have somehow offended
a few people by my comments made on 12/2/06.

Now, here's the kicker...everyone, especially
the Links (I guess that would be me), are somewhat jealous of
the LSW boy's team because they are bowling well this
season. Get real people! I'm glad that someone other
than LHS has the bulls eye on their back. Lon is doing a
great job in his first full year as head coach.
How good the LSW Varsity boy's team is this year
remains to be seen. Three years ago LSW finished runner-up
in the state finals to LHS. Both teams back then had some
really good bowlers from top to bottom.
I will admit that LSW ran roughshod over the
Links on 12.22.07 (13-8) but it wasn't as bad as the 12.6.06
match which LSW won 18-3 against a better team than I have
now. Shoot, every Lincoln Area team beat the Links last
year but when it mattered most, there was only one Lincoln team
in the arena finals.
We may not make it out of districts but I will
guarantee one thing, we will not go quietly!
12/13/07
Well, our first match is in the books. It was not
pretty at first but the guys dug deep and held their ground
against East High. The first game was a tough loss for the
entire team. I haven't been whipped that bad since my
mother sent me behind the house to pick out the switch she was
going beat me with! The team pulled together and with deliberate
determination came back and managed to win 7 points in the
match. We had a chance in the baker games but single pin
misses did them in.
Was there a bright side to the match?
Absolutely!! I'll fill you in later...most overrated word
ever is..."brook!"
The Lady Links are off to a good start. Keep up the
good work ladies and take no prisoners!
10/29/07
This morning was a real bummer. I should be sky high
since the Red Sox swept the Rockies to win the World Series but
I'm not. This morning is the day after the Lincoln bowling
community lost one of it's finest members. Mr. Neil Early,
general manager of Sun Valley Lanes, passed away.
Mr. Early has been an ardent supporter of high school bowling
through the years. The LHS Bowling Club is fortunate to
have been the recipient of his passion for bowling. He
will be sorely missed. God bless you sir!
9/6/07
Well, the madness is about to begin. Hopes are high and
there are those who are wishfully thinking that this will be the
year that the LHS Bowling Club fades into the sunset. The
numbers look to be low again but we will work with what we get
and go from there. It's not how you start but how you
finish! I look forward to being the proverbial thorn in
the side of all the LHS doubters. Enjoy it while you can.
2/20/07
I don't know about you but I was getting tired of hearing
comments that LHS didn't deserve to make it to the state
competition much less the arena finals. It's really all
about who is the better team at the moment. If you make
less mistakes than your opponent, you have a greater chance at
winning the match. If you want to move on, I've got
another two words for you...bowl better! Plain and
simple and lives up to one of our programs motto. Here's
two more...NO EXCUSES.
2/4/07
Math lesson #1. Six days and counting. Count
along with me...1,2,3,4,5,6. Wasn't that easy?
Tomorrow we'll work on counting those numbers backwards.
1/30/07
I'm not sure what kind of math is being taught in school
these days but if you can't do basic math (bad game + really bad
game + where's the coach game + we should have stayed home
game), I can't help you out. Back to school we go...
1/29/07
If at first you can't beat 'em, whine until someone
listens. I was crushed today when I found out that my
integrity is being assaulted on multiple fronts. Two
words...BITE ME!! When my head hits the pillow tonight, I
will drift off into my happy place with a smile on my face,
DoDah..DoDah.
12/30/06
We're back! Doing what we do best. Deal with it!
12/2/06
Oh my gawd, the Hawks finally win one against
LHS. The drought is over after 4 long years. Time to
head for the hills because surely the end of the world is
near!!! Could this be the start of a rivalry? Sorry
to burst your bubble but...nope!! They bowled well, we
didn't and that's that. No excuses period!
